International Day of People with Disabilities

‘International Day of People with Disabilities’ takes place every year on 3rd December and is endorsed alongside the United Nations by the World Health Organisation (WHO). It was first launched in 1992 and aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Links to activities and resources: Mentally Healthy Schools have created a detailed lesson plan designed to raise awareness of learning disabilities and autism amongst young people. The resources can be downloaded here and are suitable for KS3 pupils.

BBC Teach has created a series of clips looking at primary children with a range of disabilities, learning differences and medical conditions that aim to encourage understanding and inclusion, both at school and in the wider world. You can access the clips here.
