E4S Cornerstones Explained
Department of Education Teacher Learning Pods
To deliver a successful PSHE curriculum, teachers need to feel confident in subject knowledge and pedagogy to create the most effective environment for sensitive discussion, reflection and thus impact.
The DfE have recently released a series of ppt training slides to aid schools at the beginning of their RSHE journey. The aim of the DfE work is to provide staff with key knowledge and understanding around the content of and approaches to RSHE. These resources can be used by all schools irrespective of their E4S subscription.
However, to assist schools in exploring them and to embed them into to the E4S platform and whole school approach, there are a range of Teacher Learning Pods (TLPs) that can be used by leaders, teams or individuals. These explore specific areas to allow teachers to prepare sequences of lessons and are linked to the E4S cornerstones and supporting resources. Before embarking on the specific TLPs, teachers should visit the Foundation TLP which outlines the pedagogical aspects to consider when delivering any aspect of the PSHE curriculum. On each TLP discussion points are suggested but leaders could adjust these to suit their individual settings to reflect the needs of their pupils.
Further developments around pedagogy and inclusive safe learning environments will be forthcoming from E4S but these packs may be of use as a baseline starter if you feel that staff knowledge of contents of the RSHE curriculum needs developing.
All of the content has, of course, been mapped within the pupil profiler and curriculum builder and will therefore already be part of your E4S progress.
