The key steps are laid out below - we recommend you follow this guide fully to understand the entire journey before accessing the various tools embedded within the pathway (you can also access the tools by clicking on My Profile in the navigation).

Each step is supported by accompanying information contained in the supporting pages section.

Step 1. Developing a whole school E4S Approach

Step 2. Assessing the needs of your community

Step 3. Building your Universal Curriculum

Step 4. Professional Development of staff

Step 5. Assessing the learning

Step 6. Developing beyond the Universal Curriculum

By enabling our children and young people to develop their own skills, knowledge and understanding of how to be who they are, understand the world they are growing up in and how to keep themselves safe in all areas of their world, we believe that we are giving each and every one of them the best chance for their lives ahead.

The West Sussex Education for Safeguarding (E4S) curriculum is based on the national Department for Education Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) guidance and numerous national frameworks, including the PSHE Association, but adapted and enriched for schools in West Sussex. This has been developed via a multi-agency approach combining teams from Safeguarding in Education, Contextual Safeguarding, Health and Education in West Sussex.

The West Sussex Education for Safeguarding curriculum is intended to become the universal provision for all schools. It is designed to enable you to develop a needs -based curriculum for all pupils in your school whilst also ensuring that the national expectations for RSHE are fully addressed.

Before using the available tools, please watch the videos in the Learning Hub. These videos provide an overview of the tool suite, explain the Ethos, guide you through each feature, and offer walkthroughs to help you make the most of the tools.
